Our founder, Karen, grew up on a farm in Delmar with two mixed breed chow-chows. This early exposure to the complexities of the dog mind led her to understand the importance of compassionate care and the value of positive reinforcement training. Karen's passion for dogs continued to grow as she became involved in competitive dog events with Labrador Retrievers, a breed known for their kindness, gentleness, and strong work ethic.

Karen's experience in the pharmaceutical industry for over a decade, combined with her extensive knowledge of animal behavior and her love for dogs, led her to establish OtterTail Pet Resort. The name "OtterTail" was chosen in honor of the Labrador Retriever breed, whose otter-like tail acts as a rudder when maneuvering through water. This unique feature is the trademark of the breed and a testament to Karen's love for these wonderful companions.
