Our Story

North Shore Veterinary Hospital, a beacon of compassionate care for over 90 years, began its journey in 1931 on Vernon Valley Road in Northport, New York. Founded by Dr. Arthur Fredericks, a graduate of the esteemed Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, the hospital quickly established itself as a pillar of the community. Dr. Fredericks' early years were dedicated to serving the agricultural community, tending to the needs of all manner of animals. The 1930s was a time of bustling change and simplicity, with horse-drawn buggies traversing dirt roads and wooden crates serving as humble accommodations for pets.

The absence of modern veterinary marvels like penicillin painted a picture of resourcefulness. Food scraps collected from local restaurants supplemented pet food, and the humble cost of boarding a pet was only 25 cents a day. Through unwavering dedication and genuine empathy, Dr. Fredericks practiced for six decades, earning the profound respect and affection of the community.
