Welcome to the Humane Society of Sheboygan County, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and no-kill shelter dedicated to preventing cruelty to animals, relieving suffering among animals, and extending humane education. Since 1964, we have been serving Sheboygan County and the surrounding areas, providing a safe haven for over 4,750 animals every year. We are the only open admissions shelter in Sheboygan County, and we take pride in our mission to serve all animals in need.
Our organization operates 100% on donations from our generous supporters, and we do not receive any government funding. We are committed to providing the best possible care for all animals that come through our doors, and we offer a variety of programs and services to meet their needs.

- Lost and Found Pets: We operate a lost and found pet program to help reunite lost animals with their owners. We work closely with local law enforcement and other organizations to ensure that all lost animals are safe and returned to their owners as soon as possible.
Founders and History
The Humane Society of Sheboygan County was founded in the early 1960s by a group of dedicated volunteers, including Carol Knier, Ann Fredricks, and Sophie Gunther. These women saw a need for an organization dedicated to the welfare of animals in Sheboygan County, and they worked tirelessly to make their vision a reality.
In 2019, we opened the doors to our new state-of-the-art facility, the Carol Hollfelder Animal Shelter. This facility was made possible by the generosity and support of Carol's parents, Tom and Bea Hollfelder, and it is named in honor of Carol's dedication to animals and her inspiring story of perseverance.
Carol was paralyzed in a motorcycle accident, but she refused to let her disability hold her back. She became a remarkable racecar driver, using specially made hand controls and overcoming numerous obstacles to pursue her passion. Her love for animals and her determination to make a difference in their lives has left a lasting legacy in our community.
