Founded in 1971, the La Plata County Humane Society (LPCHS) has been a beacon of hope and care for countless animals in and around Durango, Colorado. Over the years, we've evolved into a large-scale animal welfare organization, committed to nurturing, protecting, and finding loving homes for countless furry (and feathery!) friends.

Our Mission: Protecting and Enhancing Animal Lives

Our mission is to enhance and protect the lives of companion animals. We achieve this through:

• Shelter & Rescue: Providing a safe and nurturing environment for homeless animals until they find their forever homes.
• Community Spay & Neuter: Affordable spay and neuter services to control pet overpopulation and ensure animal well-being.
• Animal Protection: Investigating and preventing animal cruelty and neglect through community outreach and education.
• Education & Outreach: Creating awareness about responsible pet ownership and fostering a compassionate community.
