At Rocky Mountain Pet Resort, we are dedicated to providing the best customized pet care available. Nestled between Steamboat Springs and Vail in the heart of the Rockies of Colorado, we have been offering superior care and service since 2001. Our Family

Meet Joel Harris, the founder of Rocky Mountain Pet Resort. After moving to Colorado from the Northeast, Joel found himself in Vail where his passion for hunting, fishing, and the outdoors came to light. This eventually led to his passion for bird dogs. He built Rocky Mountain Pet Resort in 2001 and raised his daughter Emily "with the wolves." Joel continues his hobby of training his Black Labradors for AKC Field Trial competitions.

Joel, and his partner, Dr. Sarah Love, live on the kennel property with their six black labs, Marti, Billie, Jinks, Mugs, Doc, and Brother, and their Jagdterrier, Scout. Dr. Sarah Love specializes in Canine Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation and small animal Internal Medicine. After spending time in Alaska working with sled dogs, she found herself in the retriever world competing in Hunt Tests and Field Trials. Dr. Love now runs her own practice as Sport Dog Specialty Medicine and travels locally in Colorado and across the country attending Field Trials in her customized van.

Our Staff

Our staff is dedicated to providing top-notch care for your pets. Stacey, our general manager, has made our work environment a true family space. With her deep love and care for these pets and their owners, we wouldn't be where we are today without her. Stacey also has a passion for our community here in South Routt County.

Elena, our assistant manager, is our resident photo/selfie taker and social media guru for RMPR. Elena's love for all the dogs shows daily. An avid hunter and fisherwoman, being in the outdoors and with the dogs are her true passions. On occasion, you may see her daughter, Ellie running around the kennel or snuggling with the kitties.

John, our kennel technician, has found working with dogs to be his calling. When he is not at the kennel walking, swimming, and playing with the pups, you're likely to find him on the river rain or shine chasing trout with his fly rod.

We are proud to provide the opportunity for our South Routt County High Schoolers to come work with us. Our teenage superstars have made a big difference in the quality care we are able to provide for your pets. Our dog boarding facilities offer quality, customized care for all dogs. With two buildings containing a variety of kennel sizes, we have the ability to keep your dog happy, healthy, and comfortable during their stay.

Our cat boarding facilities provide quality, customized care for not only dogs but also cats. With window views, lots of blankets, and extra attention, we can ensure your feline friend will enjoy their stay with us.

In addition to our boarding services, we also offer a variety of activities for your pets. Whether it's a walk around the property, a swim in our outdoor pool, or a playtime session with one of our staff members, we make sure your pet has a fun and engaging stay.
