Our story began over 25 years ago, when our founding father, Ryan Blakley, realized that animals were his true calling. With a lifelong fascination with reptiles, amphibians, birds, and small animals, Ryan established Walter's World of Pets in 1997. Today, our store has grown to become one of the largest and most diverse exotic pet stores in the West Texas region.

About Walter

Walter's World of Pets was originally inspired by Ryan's personal pet monitor lizard, Walter, who became the store's mascot and namesake. Walter was an Asian water monitor lizard who lived in the original store location and was a beloved fixture in the community. Although Walter is no longer with us, his legacy lives on in The Jungle, our expanded feature with many wild and exotic inhabitants.

About Our Name

Our store's name, Walter's World of Pets, was inspired by Ryan's personal pet monitor lizard, Walter. Ryan decided to share Walter with store customers by building a special enclosure with a large glass window. With a widely interesting and exotic animal in the "store family, " Walter reigned supreme as the "big kahuna, " and the store was indeed his world.
